Lady Bears Take Down Host NCCU In MEAC Round-Up Finale, 5-2

CARY, N.C. (March 24, 2024)--The Morgan State women's tennis team concluded Day 3 of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Round-Up with a 5-2 victory over host North Carolina Central on Sunday afternoon at Cary Tennis Park.

With the win, the Lady Bears finished the weekend with a 2-1 mark against the league's southern division foes.

Morgan State (3-11, 2-1 MEAC) also wrapped up what has been quite the road trip down south the past couple weeks, with stops throughout Texas, Orlando, Florida and now North Carolina.

On Sunday, Morgan State jumped out to a 1-0 lead, after claiming victories in the first two doubles matches. Lauryn Hall and Hannah Smith were paired at the No. 1 position and defeated the Eagles' tandem of Lafi Joao and Jade Houston, 6-1. Iva Jankovic and Averiana Mitchell followed with a 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles over Candice Bernier and Patricia Palencia.

Averiana Mitchell put the guests ahead 2-0 with her default victory at No. 6 over NCCU, which was shorthanded at the position.

Smith earned a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Houston at No. 2 singles and Hall defeated Palencia 6-2, 6-2 to put Morgan up 4-0. Stefania Moysiadi followed with a straight sets win over Isabelle Exsted at the No. 5 spot 6-0, 6-2, as the Lady Bears would win four of the six singles matches to secure the win.

The Eagles (5-12, 2-2 MEAC) would pick up wins at No. 3 and No. 1 singles to round out the scoring.

Morgan State will return to action on Friday, April 5, when it welcomes MEAC crosstown rival Coppin State to the MSU Tennis Courts.
