MEAC Roundup - Day 3: Men’s Tennis Loses Third Straight Match, 5-2 Versus Norfolk State

CARY, N.C. (March 24, 2024) — The Morgan State men's tennis team suffered its third straight loss on Sunday morning against Norfolk State on Day 3 of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Roundup on Sunday at the Cary Tennis Courts in Cary, North Carolina.

Morgan (5-9, 0-3 MEAC) lost the doubles point  after splitting the first two matches, Norfolk State (8-7, 3-0 MEAC) put in the extra effort in singles matches.

Mikeal Carpenter and Makkijha Brown held on for a 6-4 win against Antoni Pankowski and Jakub Solarski on court 1 after Anthony Parris and Antonio Santos dropped their match against Vladisav Gorbatenko and Frederick McRae, 6-1 on court 3.

Niles Rachal and Rhajzon Rankins were the deciding match on court 2 against Boris Lunin and Deniz Okyay but they couldn't clinch the point, losing 6-4.

Deniz Okyay had a dominant performance against Makkijha Brown as he rolled to a flawless 6-0, 6-0  win on court 3. Mikeal Carpenter put the Bears on the scoreboard by securing a 6-3, 6-4 win against Jakub Solarski on court 1. 

Antoni Pankowski recorded a 6-3, 6-2 decision on court 5 against Jaeden Patterson, before Niles Rachal won the second singles match for the Bears, sweeping Vladisav Goratenko 7-6, 6-3 on court 2. Rachal continues to be a force in the conference and has improved his overall record to an impressive 6-1 in singles action. 

Frederick McRae was pushed to a three set battle against Rhajzon Rankins before eventually managing to clinch the match on court 3 with a score of 6-4, 0-6, 6-4.

The Spartans finished off the morning action on court 6 where Boris Lunin defeated Anthony Parris in straight sets 6-2, 6-4.

The Bears will gear up for an exciting 3-game homestand, starting with a match against Harford Community College on Thursday, March 28th. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
