The short story: Raquan Brown and Michael Teal scored 12 points apiece to lift South Carolina State to a 72-61 victory over Morgan State on Saturday night at Hill Field House.
OPENING TIP
• Brown, a graduate from Charlotte, N.C., scored 12 points (5-11 FG) with four boards and two steals, while Teal shot 4 of 9 from the field and finished with 12 points, four assists and three steals to lead the Bulldogs.
• Wilson Dubinsky, a junior guard from Ottawa, Ontario, added nine points off a Bulldog bench that outscored the Bears by a 41-18 margin.
• Wynston Tabbs, who entered the night as the MEAC's No. 4 leading scorer (15.9 ppg), finished with a team-high 12 points (4-9 FG) and connected on 2 of 4 3-pointers and was the only player to score in double-figures for the Bears.
• Rob Lawson finished with a career-high 20 points in 27 minutes off the bench to lead five Bears in double-figures. The sophomore guard was perfect from the free throw line (11-11) and added three boards and three assists.
• Will Thomas had nine points, Christian Oliver posted eight points with four boards, and Kamron Hobbs added seven points, four rebounds, four assists ad a blocked shot.
• Allen Udemadu had six points and led the Bears on the glass with six rebounds and a game-high four blocked shots.
THE DIFFERENCE
• Morgan connected on 42 percent (22-52) of their shots from the field and shot 2-of-9 from 3-point territory. Meanwhile, the Bulldogs shot 39 percent from the field and connected on 4 of 12 3-pointers.
• Morgan shot .833 (15-18) from the free throw line, compared to SCSU's 78.3 percent (18-23).
• SCSU held a 39-34 advantage on the boards, including a 19-12 advantage on the offensive glass.
• The Bulldogs scored 25 points off of forcing 22 Morgan turnovers.
• SCSU outscored the Bears in the paint by a 38-32 margin.
• The game was tied 40-40 at halftime.
• Drayton Jones scored on a dunk as part of a 6-0 spurt to give the Bulldogs a 46-40 lead to open the second half.
• Trent Edwards converted a 3-point play to trim the Bulldogs' lead to 46-44 with 14:55 remaining, but it was as close as the Bears would get for the rest of the night.
• The Bulldogs pushed the lead to double-digits (54-44) following a pair of free throws by Atiba Taylor with under 10 minutes remaining.
• As the clock ticked down, the Bears fought hard to close the gap, but the Bulldogs' relentless defense and timely shots kept them in control.

• The Bears are desperate to get back on track after dropping its fourth straight conference game..
• Morgan's home record dropped to 6-5 this season.
• The Bears dropped to 1-1 when tied at halftime.

• Sophomore guard Rob Lawson left the game with just under 2 minutes remaining in the first half after suffering a blow to the nose.
