Sheffield Joins Morgan Athletics' Sports Medicine Family

BALTIMORE, Md. (December 17, 2024) — Morgan State University's Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine, Katie Olenek, has announced the addition of Dan Sheffield as an Athletic Trainer. This appointment underscores the university's ongoing commitment to prioritizing athlete health and performance, ensuring that student-athletes receive the highest standard of care and support.

"We are very excited to welcome Dan to the sports medicine staff," said Olenek.  "His expertise and prior experiences with be a valuable asset to our team and athletes."

Sheffield, a proud product of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to Morgan State University as he embarks on a new chapter in his academic and professional journey. Having recently completed his Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science at Lebanon Valley College in 2023, followed by a Master of Athletic Training degree in 2024. Sheffield is well-equipped to contribute to the university's mission of fostering excellence in athletic training and sports science.

During his tenure at Lebanon Valley College, he was entrusted with a wide range of responsibilities that underscored his dedication to the health and well-being of student-athletes. His role involved providing comprehensive medical care, which included injury assessments, treatment protocols, and ongoing rehabilitation in supporting the women's soccer and ice hockey teams.

During the 2023-24 season, he dedicated himself to enriching his skills as a volunteer trainer with the Florida Gators Football team. This role provided him with invaluable hands-on experience while working alongside seasoned professionals and talented young athletes. He also secured a position with the Houston SaberCats, a professional rugby team, during their 2024 season. This experience broadened his understanding of different athletic disciplines.

Additionally, he took advantage of the preseason with the Houston Texans, immersing himself in the world of professional football at another level. This opportunity allowed him to witness firsthand the rigorous standards and commitment required to compete in the NFL.

Sheffield was a four-year varsity track and field athlete at Lebanon Valley College.Beyond his individual achievements on the track, Sheffield played a pivotal role in the creation of the Athletic Training Club. In this capacity, he managed the club's social media and relations pages.
