Morgan State Sweeps S.C. State, 3-0

Bears split season series with Lady Bulldogs.

ORANGEBURG, S.C. (Nov. 3, 2024)--The last time Morgan State and South Carolina State met it was the Lady Bulldogs claiming a 3-1 victory last month in Baltimore (10/6), thus spoiling Morgan's Homecoming contest. The win was the first-ever over Morgan State in 30 tries and also ended a 76-match Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) losing streak, as the Lady Bulldogs recorded their first MEAC win since 2018 when they defeated Savannah State, 3-1 on the road (9/28/18).

Nearly a month later, Morgan State entered today's MEAC contest on a season-long seven-match losing skid, while host S.C. State was riding a six-match losing streak.

Morgan State would end its losing skid and avenge its loss to S.C. State with a 3-0 (27-25, 25-15, 27-25) victory over the Lady Bulldogs at Dukes Gymnasium.

Ainara Fernandes totaled 11 kills and Hannah Chappelle recorded 10 digs to lead the Bears, while Mya Karrick finished with 22 assists and Erin Carpenter added 12.

Morgan State (6-19, 2-9 MEAC), which was out blocked by NCCU on Friday evening, returned to form on Sunday, as it held a 10.0-7.0 advantage over the Lady Bulldogs. Jada Williams finished with a match-high five blocks, including a solo block, to move into a tie with former Lady Bear Kyria Jones for 10th all-time at Morgan with 197 blocks. Addison Metts and Aubrey Wilson both recorded three blocks.

The Bears finished with 46 kills and an attack percentage of .272. Morgan, which recorded double digit kills in all three sets, had it best outing in Set 2, where it totaled 17 kills and had an attack percentage of .500.

Zaria Pickett led the Lady Bulldogs (3-19, 1-9 MEAC) with a match-high 12 kills, while Robyn White finished with a match-best 15 digs. Kaia Barnett notched a match-high 28 assists in the loss.

Morgan State returns home to face league leader Howard on Friday, Nov. 8 at 6 p.m. at Hill Field House.
