BALTIMORE, Md. (Nov. 15, 2024)—Morgan State closed out the regular season with a 3-0 (25-14, 25-18, 25-9) Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) loss to rival Coppin State on Friday evening at Hill Field House. The match was also Senior Night for the Bears, who honored (Ainara Fernandez,
Addison Metts,
Trinity Carruthers,
Erin Carpenter and
Madison Grace).
Morgan State fell to 6-22, 2-12 in the MEAC, while Coppin State improved to 15-15 overall and 11-3 in the MEAC.
Coppin State reached double figures in kills in all three sets, including a set high of 16 kills with a hitting percentage of .464 in the opening set. The Bears closed out the match recording a set-best .542 hitting percentage, while finishing with 15 kills.
TaKenya Stafford led the Eagles with a match-high 16 kills and hit .600 for the match. Kahea Carvalho had a match-leading 20 assists to go with seven digs and Azul Pilahg had17 assists. Coco Figueroa led the way with a match-high 18 digs.
Daniela Ferreira and Metts each totaled seven kills and
Mya Karrick totaled 12 assists to lead Morgan. Carruthers added nine assists, while Carpenter and Metts each recorded five digs to pace the Bears.
The Bears reached double digit kills of 10 and 11, respectively, in the first two sets, before being limited to six kills in Set 3.
Morgan State will now prepare for next week's MEAC Championship in Dover, Del. The Bears will be the No. 7 seed and will face these very Coppin State Eagles, who will be the No. 2 seed in a MEAC quarterfinal match on Friday, Nov. 22 at 5:30 p.m. at Memorial Hall on the Delaware State campus.
