Bears Drubs Lincoln-PA for Homecoming Victory

BALTIMORE, Md. (Oct. 5, 2024) -- The last time these squads battled each other was back in 1953 when both teams were members of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA). In that game, Lincoln was shut out 20-0. Fast forward to this meeting, 71 years later, Lincoln (PA) still hasn't punctured the scoreboard as Morgan State pummeled the Lions 41-0 on a beautiful homecoming afternoon at Hughes Stadium.

Lincoln's field goal attempt was blocked by Nana Asante. A few plays later, Morgan quarterback Duce Taylor found Andre Crawley with a 79-yard touchdown pass to open the scoring for the Bears. However, Beckett Leary's extra point attempt was blocked by Lincoln's Maleek Robinson. Morgan led 6-0 with 10:48 left in the first quarter.

Crawley refected on the sequence

"Nana did a great job on blocking field goals, said Crawley. "I got out there and made sure I did my job and made the play when it came to me. God is good."

"We wanted to score the ball in all three phases," said Morgan head coach Damon Wilson, who won the 100th game in his career.  "We had an opportunity to eliminate their opportunity to score. So, it gave our offense an opportunity to score."

On the Bears next possession, senior Myles Miree ran it in from eight yards out. Beckett's extra point extended the Bears' advantage to 13-0 with 5:35 left in the first quarter.

Morgan (3-3) opened the second quarter with a five-play, 46-yard drive that ended with a J.J. Davis 25-yard touchdown run between the tackles with 12:04 left. Leary's extra point pushed the Bear advantage to 20-0.

The Bears electrified the crowd  when they scored off of a halfback pass from Andre Crawley to Marquez Phillips with 1:17 left in the first half. The extra point from Leary makes it 27-0 in favor of the Bears.

The fourth down and six pass play of 29 yards from Taylor to tight end Ferdinand Nvivih set up a one-yard touchdown run from Myles Miree a couple plays later with 7:02 left in the third quarter to help extend to a 34-0 lead.

Arturo Mattocks recovered a Lincoln fumble at the Lions' four-yard line with 1:15 left in the 3rd quarter. Two plays later, sophomore Dorian Harris ran the ball in from the 1. The extra point from Leary capped the scoring for the Bears at 41-0 with 39 seconds left.

Coach Wilson and the Bears have taken a constructive approach to reflect on their tough loss at Stony Brook last week.

"We learned that we got to play with energy, said Wilson. "This week, we came out and had a lot of energy. Played with a lot of enthusiasm and got out of there pretty good."

Morgan hosts Merrimack College in their last non-conference game of the season next week at Hughes Stadium. Kickoff is set at 3 pm.
