BALTIMORE, Md. (Oct. 3, 2024)--The Morgan State Bears volleyball team is eager to claim their first Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) victory this Friday, October 4th, as they prepare to host North Carolina Central at Hill Field House. First serve is at 4 p.m.
Â
Following a tough 0-2 start to conference play and an overall record of 4-12, the Bears are determined to turn things around and secure a much-needed win on their home court to start the Homecoming weekend.
Â
In their recent match on the road against Delaware State last Sunday, the Bears struggled offensively, but showed glimpses of potential.
Madison Grace,
Jada Williams, and
Addison Metts each contributed four kills, as the team combined for a total of 18 kills in the match. Although it wasn't enough to get the win, their efforts on both sides of the ball highlight the team's determination to keep improving. Williams, in particular, showcased her defensive skills with three crucial blocks, providing a spark that the team will look to build on as they head into Friday's contest.
Â
North Carolina Central (3-10, 1-1 MEAC) had its season-long two match winning streak come to an end on Sunday with a 3-0 loss at home to Howard. Kamren Harper tallied 10 kills, while Kayden Cupid added seven. Emmie Modlin had eight digs, while Bella Dearinger, who was honored prior to the match for surpassing 1,000 assists, finished with a team-high 20 assists.
Â
Despite the challenges they've faced so far this MEAC season, the Bears remain optimistic. They know they have the talent and teamwork to compete within the MEAC, and they're hoping that everything will start to click against North Carolina Central. Playing on their home court gives them an added advantage, and the team will be looking to capitalize on that energy as they strive to break through with their first conference victory of the season.
Â
The Eagles have won five straight and hold a 5-3 all-time series lead over Morgan State.
