Jackson Places 18th In Long Jump At NCAA East Preliminaries

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (May 25, 2023)--Day 2 of the NCAA East Preliminaries at Jax Track at Hodges Stadium on the campus of North Florida, featured the women competing for the first time at the meet.

Among those participating in Thursday's events was Morgan State junior Tia Jackson, who was competing in the long jump and looking to secure her spot to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Austin, Texas.

Needing to finish in the top 12 in order to advance to the NCAA Championship, Jackson would conclude her season finishing 18th overall out of 48 competitors with a leap of 6.06 meters (19-feet 10.75 inches).

The Bristol, United Kingdom native was the last to jump (24th) out of the first two flight groups and recorded her mark of 6.06 meters, which moved her to sixth after the first set of jumps were completed.

Jackson, who finished fourth out of the Flight 1 group, would remain in sixth place until the final two flight groups competed.

A three-time Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Field Athlete of the Week selection, Jackson this season put together a string of five consecutive meet victories in the long jump to close out the regular season after placing second in the season opener.

Along the way, she would set three personal-best marks, including her current personal best of 6.21 meters, which she set on her home track while winning gold at the MSU Legacy Meet.

Jackson successfully defended her MEAC long jump title, by capturing gold at the MEAC Outdoor Championship in Norfolk, Va. She would jump a winning distance of 6.04 meters on her first attempt to repeat as champion. It would be her only jump in the event, as she would hurt her leg. Jackson also added a silver medal with a second-place finish in the high jump.
