BALTIMORE, Md. (April 7, 2023)--The Morgan State softball team was back at home on in the friendly confines of Lois T. Murray Field on Good Friday for a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) doubleheader against Delaware State.

The Lady Bears would shutout the Hornets, claiming Game 1 by a score of 8-0 in six innings, before completing the sweep with another 8-0 victory in five innings in the second game.

The victories marked the fifth and sixth shutout wins in 11 MEAC contests this season, as the Lady Bears improved to 19-13 overall and 9-1 in the MEAC. Delaware State fell to 6-20, 2-8 in the MEAC.

Game 1
Morgan State would score its eight runs on 13 hits.
Victoria Fletcher accounted for much of the damage, as she finished 3-for-3 with a game-high 4RBIs.
Mia Ewell was 3-for-4 with a game-high three runs and
Asia Thomas went 2-for-3 with two runs and a RBI. Starting pitcher
Anaya Hunte helped herself, going 2-for-3 with a run and RBI.

Ewell scored the first run of the game on a Fletcher single to center field in the first inning. Ewell doubled to left center in the third inning to score Thomas for a 2-0 lead. Ewell would later score in the third on a sacrifice fly hit by Fletcher for a 3-0 advantage.

The hosts increased their lead to 5-0 with a run each in the fourth and fifth innings. Fletcher singled to center in the sixth inning to score
Nia Lewis and Thomas for two more runs and up the Lady Bears' cushion to 7-0.

Madison Nunez rounded out the scoring with a single to right center to scoring Ewell in the sixth inning for the 8-0 win.
Â
Hunte improved to 11-5 with the complete game win. She recorded six strikeouts and surrendered two hits in six innings of work.

Game 2
The Lady Bears did all their scoring in the first two innings and cruised to the 8-0 victory.
Victoria Fletcher, who picked up her seventh win of the season, tossed five strikeouts over five innings in a two-hit complete game victory.
Â
At the plate, Fletcher would help her cause, going 2-for-3 with a run and a game-high 3RBIs.
Melissa Paz finished 2-for-2 with a walk and
Asia Thomas had a hit, scored twice, and walked.

Fletcher put the Lady Bears on the board in the first inning with a single to right field, scoring Thomas.
Madison Nunez (2RBIs) grounded out at first to score Fletcher for the 2-0 advantage.

Morgan State then scored six runs in the second inning to put the game away.
Deborah Hamilton scored on a wild pitch and Fletcher singled up the middle to drive in
Chandler Mitchell and Thomas for a 5-0 lead. After
Mia Ewell scored the sixth run of the game on a passed ball, Sydney Gonciaraz scored on a ground out by Nunez. Morgan concluded its scoring when
Anaya Hunte reached base on a fielding error at first, when allowed
Maia Wilkins to score the eighth run of the game. Â

Next Up: Morgan State will look for its third MEAC series sweep, when it faces the Hornets on Saturday, April 8 at 12 p.m. at Lois T. Murray Field.
