Morgan’s Chretien Lukusa one of 46 selected to participate in NCAA program

BALTIMORE, Md. (May 1, 2023)  – Morgan State men's basketball associate head coach Chretien Lukusa is one of 46 full-time professionals from NCAA member institutions selected to participate in next month's NCAA Basketball Coaches Academy.

Scheduled to take place May 10-12 at the NCAA National Office in Indianapolis, Ind., the event will provide participants with an opportunity to expand their knowledge and insight into the world of intercollegiate basketball coaching. During the academy, selected participants will be trained in a variety of areas that encourage effective coaching at the intercollegiate level, with a focus on the holistic well-being and development of the student-athlete.

"I am truly honored and excited about the opportunity to participate in this year's NCAA Basketball Coaches Academy," said Lukusa. "The NCAA does a tremendous job in providing professional development opportunities for its coaches and administrators, and to be a part of such a selective cohort of coaches is a privilege that I do not take for granted. I am looking forward to learning and sharing with the other 45 participants."

"I'm so proud of Chretien for being one of 46 full-time professionals selected to the 2023 NCAA Basketball Coaches Academy," said MSU head coach Kevin Broadus. "In my opinion they could not have selected a better coach.  Chretien already has some outstanding leadership qualities but I know he'll come back to Baltimore even stronger as a coach which in turn will make our program better."

c21Chretien was appointed to his current position by Broadus in September 2022, after serving the previous three years as an assistant coach with the program. As a member of Broadus' staff he has been responsible for assisting and coordinating game scheduling and team practices, recruiting and player development. He also organized community, on-campus recruiting, and team events.

Prior to Morgan State, Lukusa spent five years on staff at Binghamton University, three years as an assistant. In his time at Morgan State, Lukusa has contributed many facets of the program, including recruiting, player development, and scheduling.

Lukusa starred for Binghamton from 2007-11, playing in 116 career games – second-most of any player in school history. A four-year letterwinner and two-year captain, Lukusa scored 640 career points and ranks among the program's top-six in assists (170), steals (92) and rebounds (275).

He earned his bachelors degree in sociology with a minor in Africana Studies in 2011 and masters degree in Student Affairs Administration in 2013. Both from Binghamton Univeristy.

A native of Toronto, Canada Lukusa has been involved with the Canadian National team and and local grassroots programs both as a player and volunteer staff.
