BALTIMORE, Md. (April 19, 2023) — The Morgan State men's tennis team defeated the Coppin State Eagles, 6-1, in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference match Wednesday afternoon at the MSU Tennis Courts.
The Bears improved to 5-11-1 overall for the season, while Coppin fell to 1-13.
Coppin opened the doubles with a hard fought 7-5 win on court as Mikel Carpenter and Martial Kawunda fell to the Eagles' Vansh Kapoor and Ulugbek Abdurakhmonov. Moments later, the Bears' No. 1 duo of Sebastian Lopez and Makkijha Brown were upended by Coppin's Anas Haddou/Rishi Jalota 6-2 to haul in the doubles point.
Morgan won four singles matches to clinch a victory as Niles Rachel, Rhajzon Rankins and Makkijha Brown each defeated their respective Eagle opponents. Mikeal Carpenter clinched the win for the Bears on court one as he defeated Vansh Kapoor. Morgan finished out the afternoon with another two points on court five and six.
The Bears will now host Howard on Thursday, April 20 at MSU Tennis Courts.
