Lady Bears Sweep Norfolk State To Remain Unbeaten In MEAC Play

Morgan State extends winning streak to a season-best six straight.

BALTIMORE, Md., (March 26, 2023)--Morgan State completed a three-game Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) series sweep of visiting Norfolk State on Sunday afternoon with a doubleheader victory. The Lady Bears won the opening game 7-2 and followed with a 2-0 win in the finale at Lois T. Murray Field.

The Lady Bears would outscore the Spartans 16-2 in the three games, including two shutout victories.

Morgan State improved to 15-11, 6-0 in the MEAC, while extending its winning streak to a season-best six straight. Norfolk State fell to 11-15, 2-4 in the MEAC.

Already leading 1-0, the Lady Bears added four runs in the bottom of the second to increase their advantage to 5-0.

Asia Thomas singled down the left field line to score Alison Keener and Sarah Tuzinski scored on a fielding error by the shortstop. Thomas later scored on a sacrifice fly hit to center field by Melissa Paz and Nia Lewis added the fifth run on an RBI single hit by Mia Ewell.

Norfolk State finally got on the board in the fifth inning when Gabby Vaughan singled up the middle to score Victoria Ruiz for the Spartans' first run of the series in 12 innings.

Morgan State countered with a run in the fifth inning on Madison Bolyea's single up the middle to score Ewell and Fletcher grounded out in the sixth inning to score Thomas for the seventh run of the day for the Lady Bears.

Vaughan ended the scoring when she singled to left field in the seventh inning to drive in Imani Moore for the Spartans' second and final run of the entire weekend.
