BALTIMORE, Md. (March 18, 2022)-The Morgan State softball team traveled to local foe Towson for a non-conference midweek series against the Tigers on Wednesday afternoon at Tiger Softball Stadium.

The two teams would split their Battle for Greater Baltimore doubleheader with the host Tigers claiming the opener, 2-1 in eight innings, before Morgan State won Game 2, 9-1 in six innings.

Morgan State improved to 16-12 on the season and wrapped up its portion of the non-conference slate against members of the Colonial Athletic Association with a 5-1 mark with wins over Elon, North Carolina A&T, Hofstra and Towson.

The Tigers upped their record to 14-15 and has now dropped five of the last eight meetings against Morgan State.

Game 1
Towson broke a scoreless game in the bottom of the fourth inning when Cara Bohner singled to right field to score Madyson Peters for the 1-0 lead.

Morgan State got on the board two innings later on an RBI bunt single by
Alison Keener, which scored
Chandler Mitchell and evened the game at 1-1.

The guests appeared to be in position to take the lead in the top of the eighth when
Maia Wilkins came home from third and slid around the Towson catcher to avoid the tag. However, she would be called out at the plate, thus ending the inning.

The Tigers would win the game in the bottom half of the eighth when Sydni Byers reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Alyssa Myint for the game winner.

Towson's Maddie Gardner, who improved to 7-3 with the complete game win, struck out 10 batters, while allowing a run on three hits in eight innings.

Game 2
The Lady Bears wasted no time in the second game, jumping out to a 7-0 lead after two innings of play.

Deborah Hamilton singled to right field to score
Mia Ewell and
Alison Keener drew a bases loaded walk to make it a 2-0 game.
Madison Nunez scored the third and final run of the first when
Gianna Ettore grounded out to second.
Â
Morgan State went back to work with four more runs in the second.
Asia Thomas got it started with a homerun to center field. Four batters later Hamilton sent a three-run shot over the center field fence to increase the lead to 7-0.

Towson got on the board in the fourth inning when Mackenzie Lake home to left field for what would be the Tigers' lone run of the game.

The guests ended the scoring in the sixth inning when Nunez homered to left field to bring
Sydney Gonciarz home for the 9-1 victory.

Morgan State would score nine runs on eight hits and walked five times. Hamilton led the way going 2-for-3 with a run and a game-high 4RBIs. Nunez, who went 1-for-3 with 2RBIs, scored a game-high three times and had a walk. Thomas was 2-for-4 with a run and RBI and
Victoria Fletcher added two runs and a walk.

Anaya Hunte improved to 10-5 on the season with the victory. She threw six strikeouts, surrendering run on six hits in six innings.

Towson's Morgan Wagner fell to 0-4 after getting charged with seven runs on four hits in 1.2 innings of work.

Next Up: Morgan State will return to Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) action this weekend when it travels to the Nation's Capital to battle Beltway rival Howard. The series gets underway on Saturday, April 1 with a doubleheader at 1 p.m. and will conclude on Sunday, April 2 with a single game at noon. All three games will be played at Nationals Youth Academy in Washington, D.C.
