BALTIMORE, Md. (March 24, 2023) — Morgan State men's tennis wound up on the wrong end of a tight match today at, as LIU won 4-2 on the Saturday, March 25 at the Navy Brigade Sports Complex in Annapolis, Md. With the loss, Morgan returns home with a 4-8 overall record, while LIU improved to 4-11 for the season.
Doubles began with the Sharks jumping out front, with Philip Bible and Ales D'Anna picking up a win on court one against Makkijha Brown and Sebastian Lopez 6-3. Next, the duo of Mikel Carpenter and Bertin Karenzi evened the match with a 7-5 win on court three against Tuna Nergizoglu and S. Fernandez Romera. The doubles point was decided on court two as Danila Ishchanka and Akhil Indrabalan downed Niles Rachal and Rhajzon Rankins 7-6 (7-5).
In singles, the Bears took a 2-1 advantage after Carpenter got the Bears on the scoreboard with a 6-4, 6-2 win against Bible on court one, followed by a 6-4, 6-2 victory by Rachal over D'Anna on court three.
From there the match went in favor of the Sharks, with Lopez falling 6-1, 6-4 to Fernandez Romera at No. 2 singles. Lucas Hornung recorded a 6-2, 6-0 win against Martial Kawunde and Indrabalan clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-2 win against Karenzi on court four.
Morgan now returns home for a bit, with a Friday (April 7) match against Howard scheduled for 4 p.m. The Bears will also host John Hopkins on Wednesday, April 12.
