Johns Hopkins Tops Morgan State

BALTIMORE, Md. (April 13, 2023) – The eighth-ranked Johns Hopkins men's tennis team picked up a road win on Wednesday at Morgan State. The Bears fell to the Blue Jays, 6-1, and fall to a 4-9 record (2-1 MEAC) for the season.
 
Hopkins(14-3) won all three doubles matches to take the first point of the match. James and Thomas Yu beat Makkijha Brown and Martial Kawunde, 6-4, at first doubles. Daniel Ardila and Jonathan Zhang defeated Niles Rachel and Rhajzon Rankins, 7-5, at second. And at third, Marco Azar and George Jiangwon 7-6 (5) over Mikeal Carpenter and Bertin Karenzi.
 
The Blue Jays and Bears split a pair of three-setters at first and second singles, with the remaining four singles matches decided in straight sets. Carpenter earned Morgan State's only point of the match with a 6-7 (4), 6-3, 1-0 (3) win over Thomas Yu at first. Zhang rallied to beat Rankins 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (6) at second. Mason Liu beat Rachel 7-6 (0), 6-2 at third and Ardila won 6-2, 6-2 over Brown at third. James Yu defeated Karenzi 6-3, 6-1 at fifth and Azar did not drop a game as he beat Kawunde at sixth.
