CARY, N.C. (March 18, 2023) – Competing in the final match of the MEAC Tennis Round-Up, the Morgan State men's tennis team put together a 6-1 win over Norfolk State on Saturday morning to improve to 4-7 overall and 2-1 in conference play.
The Bears opened doubles with a 6-3 victory on court two as Mikeal Carpenter and Bertin Karenzi teamed up to defeat Norfolk State's Boris Lunin and Hugo Massoni. Rhazjzon Rankins and Niles Rachal's 6-1 win over Ibrahim Abbas and Sadiq Hinton sealed the doubles point on Court 3.
On Court 1, Fererifo Rebecchino and Adam Kaczmarek led Sebastian Lopez and Makkijha Brown 5-4 when Morgan State clinched the doubles point.
Morgan won three singles matches straight to clinch a victory as Rankins, Carpenter and Lopez each defeated their respective Spartan opponents. Lopez clinched the win for the Bears at the No. 2 slot as he defeated Adam Kaczmarek 6-2, 2-6, 7-6. Morgan's only loss of the day was on Court 6 as the Spartans' Abbas took down Martial Kawunda 6-4, 6-1. The Bears finished out the morning with another two points as Brown shutout Roosevelt Brown III 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5, and Karenzi collected a 6-3, 6-2 win against Lunin at No. 4.
The Bears will now travel north to Lawrenceville (N.J.) to face Rider on Friday, March 24.
