Men's Tennis Suffers 5-2 loss at Navy

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (March 13, 2023) -- The Morgan State men's tennis team suffered a 5-2 defeat against Navy last Sunday afternoon at Tose Family Tennis Center
 
The Bears fall to 1-5 on the season, while the Midshipmen improved to 10-12.
 
Christian Pumpelly helped clinch the doubles point and won a straight-set singles match during Navy's victory over the Bears.
 
Sebastian Lopez and Makkijha Brown fell 6-2 at the No. 1 doubles flight against Luke Garner and Sasha Panyan. The Mids' Nathan Nguyen and Christian Pumpelly won their No. 2 match 6-4 against Niles Rachal and Rhajzon Rankins. Aniketh Ayinala and J.J. Etterbeek made it a sweep of the double match with their 7-5 win against Mikeal Carpenter and Bertin Karenzi at the No. 3 flight.
 
In singles action, Ayinala boosted Navy to a 2-0 advantage with his 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles.  Back came the Bears with wins by Rachal at No. 3 singles and then Carpenter at No. 1 to tie the match at 2-2.  Pumpelly broke the tie when dropped Brown, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 5 singles.  Nicholas Nguyen earned the match-clinching fourth team point when he posted a 7-5, 7-5 victory against Rankins at No. 4 singles.

Matthew McNair closed out the match with a 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 win at No. 6 singles against Bertin Karenzi.
