NORFOLK, Va. (Feb. 18, 2023)—Morgan State entered this afternoon's Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) contest at Norfolk State riding a nine-game winning streak and unbeaten in league play.
As the old adage goes, all good things must come to an end. Unfortunately for Morgan State, on this day, that would be the case, as the host Spartans handed the Lady Bears their first MEAC loss of the season, following a 74-37 thumping inside Echols Hall.
With the loss, Morgan State fell to 16-7, 9-1 in the MEAC and had its winning streak halted at nine games, two shy of tying the school record for consecutive wins (11) set by the 1980-81 team.
Ja'Niah Henson led the Lady Bears with 11 points, while
Emily Jones added eight on 3-for-5 shooting, including 2-for-2 from beyond the arc.
Norfolk State (20-5, 8-2 MEAC) extended its winning streak to three straight, earned its 20
th win of the season and improved to 11-1 at home.
Deja Francis came off the bench to score a game-high 16 points on 5-for-7 shooting, while dishing out a game-high six assists. Camille Downs scored 12 points on 6-for-9 shooting and Makoye Diawara came off the bench to add 10 points on 5-for-6 shooting. Kierra Wheeler pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds in the win.
The Lady Bears head home to host Beltway rival Howard for Greek Night on Monday, Feb. 20 at 5:30 p.m. at Hill Field House. The Bison (11-12, 7-3 MEAC) were dealt a 52-41 loss at Coppin State earlier today.
