BALTIMORE, Md. (Feb. 20, 2023)--Howard junior guard Destiny Howell scored a game-high 24 points to lead three Bison players in double figures scoring, as visiting Howard claimed a 64-56 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) victory over rival Morgan State on Monday evening at Hill Field House.

Azaihnna Hudson finished with 14 and Brooklyn Fort-Davis added 12 points and a team-high seven rebounds to help Howard earn a season split with Morgan State.

Howard improved to a 12-12, 8-3 MEAC with the win, while Morgan State dropped its second straight and fell to 16-8, 9-2 MEAC. The loss was also Morgan State's first home defeat of the season in 11 games and ended the Lady Bears' 16-game homecourt winning streak since the 2018-19 season.

Morgan State led by two (31-29) at the half, but Howard came out in the third period using an 11-3 spurt to take a 40-34 advantage with 3:09 to play in the quarter. A trey by Nyla Cooper extended the Bison lead to 10 points (46-36) and the guests carried a 49-42 advantage after three quarters of play.

Taylor Addison began the fourth with a three-pointer and scored on a putback to bring the Lady Bears within three points at 50-47. Henson then hit a three and knocked down two free throws to even the scored at 52 all with 4:58 to play.

Clinging to a 56-54 lead, Fort-Davis scored the next six points for Howard to push its lead to 62-54 with 38 seconds remaining.

Morgan State shot 20-for-67 (30%) from the floor, including 7-for-26 (27%) from three-point range. The guests shot 20-for-43 (46.5%) and 5-for-14 (36%) from downtown.

The Lady Bears went to the free throw line 13 times, connecting on nine for 69%. Howard finished 19-for-32 (59.4%) at the line.

Morgan State's
Charlene Shepherd scored a team-high 20 points and had a game-high four steals, while Addison recorded her fourth double-double of the season, finishing with 10 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Henson finished with 10 points.

The Lady Bears will now prepare for Delaware State on Saturday, Feb. 25 at 2 p.m. at Hill Field House. The Hornets (5-17, 3-8 MEAC) were a 50-49 winner at home today over South Carolina State.
