ORANGEBURG, S.C. (Feb. 13, 2023)—
Ja'Niah Henson scored a game-high 15 points on 6-for-11 shooting and
Jael Butler also shot 6-for-11 to score 14 points, as Morgan State defeated South Carolina State, 69-48 on Monday evening at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center.
Morgan State improved to 16-6 overall, 9-0 in the MEAC with the win, while the host Lady Bulldogs fell to 3-21, 2-7 MEAC.
The victory, which was the Lady Bears second over S.C. State in a span of a week, extended Morgan State's season-long winning streak to nine straight. The Lady Bears are now two wins shy of tying the school record for consecutive victories at 11.
Charlene Shepherd finished with 14 points and
Taylor Addison pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds to go with eight points and four steals and five assists, both game highs.
The Lady Bears, who never trailed in the game, scored 40 points in the paint and turned 25 S.C. State turnovers into 29 points.
The hosts were led by Nicole Gwynn, who scored 12 points and had five rebounds. Janiah Hinton added 11 points and Lovely Sonnier grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.
Morgan State will return on the road this Saturday, Feb. 18, when it travels to Norfolk State to face the Spartans in a MEAC contest at 2 p.m. at Echols Hall. Norfolk State (19-5, 7-2 MEAC) was a 70-42 winner over Delaware State today to complete the season sweep.
