BALTIMORE, Md. (Dec. 11, 2023) — Morgan State linebacker Erick Hunter was named a member of the FCS Football Central All-American Third Team on Monday. The Team consists of FCS players representing all 13 conferences and 59 schools.
Hunter has gained a ton of recognition over the past couple of weeks, and so far he's been named to the All-MEAC First Team, is a Buck Buchanan Award finalist, and has been honored as a two-time MEAC Player of the Week (Sept. 4, Oct. 30) and an HBCU National Player of the Week (Sept. 4).
Hunter was a leading force on one of the nation's best defenses. He finished the regular season ranked No. 1 in the MEAC with 75 tackles and was No. 6 in tackles for loss (9.5). He is also added 7 QB hurries, 3.0 sacks (No. 11), two forced fumbles, two interceptions and a pass breakup. Hunter had at least nine or more tackles in five of Morgan's 10 games this season, including tying a season-high with 11 tackles in the Bears' season-finale at Howard. Hunter currently ranks No. 10 on Morgan's all-time tackles list with 188 career tackles.
Morgan was picked to finish fourth (4th) in the MEAC preseason head football coaches and sports information directors, but instead finished in a 2-way tie for second place with a 3-2 mark in league play. Morgan concluded the 2023 season with 4-6 record.
