OPENING TIP

  • Thompson, a redshirt-senior transfer from Saint Francis (Pa.), finished with a game-high 19 points and five rebounds to lead five Bears in double-figures. He shot 7-of-13 from the field and connected on 3-of-8 shots from beyond the arc to help the Bears hit the century mark for the first time since Nov. 23, 2022 when they posted a 123-59 win against Virginia-Lynchburg.
  • Senior guard Wynston Tabbs scored 17 points (5-10 FT) with five boards, five assists and two blocks in 21 minutes. Senior guard Kamron Hobbs had 15 points (3-4 3FG) and six rebounds and Amahrie Simpkins was just shy of a double-double with 15 points, eight rebounds and four assists. 7-foot center Christian Oliver finished with 12 points, a game-high nine rebounds and three blocked shots in 23 minutes.
  • Chimeziri Okeoma paced the Wolves with 15 points and connected on 3-of-4 3-pointers and finished with three rebounds 26 minutes.
  • Dajer Muldrow and Derrell Redd scored 10 points each for Cheney.

THE DIFFERENCE

  • Morgan connected on 55.7 percent of their shots from the field and 40.9 percent (9-22) from behind the arc while the Wolves shot 31.3 percent from the field and connected on 6 of 20 (.300) 3-pointers.
  • Morgan shot .722 (13-18) from the free throw line, compared to the Cheyney's .286 percent (4-14).
  • It was a back-and-forth affair throughout most of the first half, as Cheyney was able to stay close as they trailed 42-34 at the intermission.
  • After halftime, Morgan used a 14-2 run punctuated by a Christian Oliver dunk to open up a 20-point lead (56-36). The Bears also added an 20-2 run that was capped by a 3-pointer and tough basket in the paint by Kamron Hobbs to help extend to an 87-49 lead with 4:31 remaining.
  • The Bears were unselfish with the basketball as well, getting credit for 23 assists.
  • Morgan dominated the paint outrebounding the Bears 57-29.
  • Morgan scored 24 points off of forcing 17 Cheyney turnovers.
  • Morgan outscored the Bears by a 14-4 margin in fastbreak points.
  • A layup by Kiran Oliver with 33 seconds left gave the Bears their final score of 100-52.

NOTABLE

  • The win counted in the boxscore for the Bears, while the game was recorded as an exhibition for the Wolves.

QUOTABLE

  • "The team played more together and the defense got better," said Coach Broadus about the second half adjustment. "We still need to work on less turnovers and better defense. Even though we held them to 31 percent shooting from the floor, I think our defense had some miscues during the game and good teams will exploit that."

  • "My game was aggressive and I still need to get my teammates involved," said Tabbs. "Just finding that medium really helped me moving forward."

UP NEXT

The Bears return to the hardwood on Sunday, November 12 for a 12 p.m. tip versus Penn State Wilkes Barre at Hill Field House.
