The short story: Kylan Boswell had 18 points and five rebounds and No. 12 Arizona scored 58 in the paint in a 122-59 win over Morgan State on Monday night.
OPENING TIP
- Boswell, sophomore from Champaign, Ill., finished with a game-high 18 points and five rebounds to lead eight Wildcats in double-figures. He shot 7-of-10 from the field and also did some damage outside the arc, draining 4-of-6 three-pointers to push Arizona to a wire-to-wire win.
- Senior guard Pelle Larsson scored 15 points (6-6 FT) in 15 minutes. Keshad Johnson, a senior 6-7 forward, added a game-high seven rebounds and three blocked shots to go along with 14 points in 19 minutes.
- Junior Christian Oliver paced the Bears with 12 points and connected on 3-of-5 3-pointers and finished with four rebounds 20 minutes.
- Redshirt senior Myles Thompson also scored double figures with 11 points (2-5 FG) and had four rebounds. Redshirt senior Wynston Tabbs chipped in 10 points with three rebounds and had seven turnovers.
THE DIFFERENCE
- Arizona connected on 55.3 percent of their shots from the field and 44.4 percent from behind the arc while the Bears shot 39.3 percent from the field and connected on 7 of 22 (.318) 3-pointers.
- Morgan shot .533 (8-15) from the free throw line, compared to the Wildcat's .700 percent (22-27).
- The Wildcats dominated after an early feeling-out period, using two big runs to build a 35-point halftime lead, their largest since 1998.
- The Wildcats were unselfish with the basketball as well, getting credit for 26 assists.
- Arizona dominated the paint outrebounding the Bears 49-27.
- Morgan scored 10 points off of forcing 7 Arizona turnovers, while the Wildcats scored 41 points off of 25 Morgan turnovers.
- Arizona outscored the Bears by a 38-9 margin in fastbreak points.
- Morgan kept it close early before the Wildcats ran away on runs of 15-2 and 18-3. Arizona harassed the Bears into 15 first-half turnovers - leading to 22 transition points - and dominated the paint to lead 61-26 at halftime.
