The short story: Kimani Hamilton had a game-high 20 points and 10 rebounds to lead High Point over Morgan State 77-59 on Wednesday night at Qubein Center.
OPENING TIP
- Hamilton, a sophomore from Jackson, Miss., finished with a game-high 20 points 6-of-9 shooting and added a game-high 10 rebounds to lead the Panthers to back-to-back wins and improve to a 5-3 record.
- Junior guard Trae Benham scored a season-high 15 points (5-8 3FG) and grabbed five boards with two steals in 23 minutes. Duke Miles, a junior point guard, added 13 points and a game-high six assists. Juslin Bodo Bodo added seven rebounds, seven points and swatted two shots into the stands.
- Junior 7-footer Christian Oliver led the Bears with 14 points and connected on 2-of-3 from 3-point territory in 20 minutes.
- Redshirt-senior guard Wynston Tabbs scored nine of his 12 points (5-15 FG) in the second half. Freshman guard Marvin Brimage added 10 points with three steals off the bench.
THE DIFFERENCE
- High Point connected on 48 percent of their shots from the field and 33.3 percent from behind the arc while the Bears shot 38.7 percent from the field and connected on 5 of 19 (.263) 3-pointers.
- Morgan shot .600 (6-10) from the free throw line, compared to the HPU' .652 percent (15-23).
- The Panthers outscored the Bears in the paint by a 32-30 margin.
- HPU outrebounded the Bears 39-34, including a 29-23 advantage on the defensive boards.
- HPU scored 15 points off of forcing 14 Morgan turnovers.
- The Panthers forced five turnovers in the opening 5 minutes and took an early 9-2 lead.
- Another turnover by the Bears led to a transition 3-pointer by Trae Benham to give the Panthers a 16-6 lead with 13:27 remaining in the half.
- Kamron Hobbs tossed a lob to Kiran Oliver who finished with a dunk to help ignite the Bears. Morgan would outscore the Panthers behind a 7-2 run, and Christian Oliver scored on a backdoor cut to trim HPU's lead to 22-20 at the 6:46 mark.
- High Point responded with a 3-pointer by Kimani Hamilton to jumpstart the Panthers. Off of a media timeout, Juslin Bodo Bodo scored on an inbounds lob play and was fouled by Kamron Hobbs. Dodo completed the 3-point play to give the Panthers a 32-22 lead.
- The Panthers outscored the Bears 14-3 to end the half with a 39-25 lead.
- HPU scored 11 points off forcing the Bears into 12 turnovers in the first half.
- HPU's lead grew off a pair of three-pointers by Benham to push the lead to 20 (49-29).
- The Bears got a putback by Kiran Oliver as part of a 7-0 run. HPU called a timeout with 13:55 remaining and leading 52-40.
- Off the timeout, HPU went on a 19-4 run to go back up by 20. An inbounds 3-pointer by Trae Benham, his fifth of the night, extended the lead to 27 (71-44) with 8:14 to go.

- The win improves High Point's series record against Morgan to 3-2; High Point has won the last three meetings.
- Morgan's record is currently 0-6 when trailing at halftime.
