Lady Bears Take Care Of Delaware State, 59-36

Henson scored 800th point.

BALTIMORE, Md. (Jan. 28, 2023)-Morgan State senior guard Ja'Niah Henson scored a game-high 24 points on 7-for-12 shooting, including 4-for-8 from three-point range to lead Morgan State to a 59-36 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) victory over Delaware State at Memorial Hall.

Morgan State (12-6, 5-0 MEAC) has now won four straight over the Hornets in Dover. Delaware State fell to 4-13, 2-4 MEAC.

Henson's performance gave her exactly 800 points for her career, as the Lady Bears led from wire-to-wire to record their fifth consecutive victory and their seventh straight over Delaware State.

Charlene Shepherd added eight points, a game-high 10 rebounds – all defensive – had a game-high four steals and two blocks, while Sedayjha Payne finished with eight points and five rebounds. Taylor Addison tallied seven points to go with six boards.

The Lady Bears, who have taken pride in holding their opponents under 10 points in fourth quarter, changed things up today, as they led from wire-to-wire. Morgan State scored the game's first eight points, before the Hornets scored the next six. Those would be the only points of the first quarter for the hosts as the Lady Bears held a 13-6 advantage after a quarter of play.

Morgan State would again hold the Hornets under 10 points in the second period, as Delaware State went into the locker room trailing the Lady Bears, 26-14.

A mini 5-0 run by the hosts cut Morgan's deficit to 34-23 with 5:18 left in the third. But the Lady Bears countered with six straight points to trigger an 8-0 run to increase their lead to 42-25 at the end of three.

Morgan State, which shot 50% (6-for-12) in the third quarter and 46% (6-for-13) in the fourth, closed out the contest scoring the game's final seven points for the 23-point victory.

Delaware State was led by Breionna Dodson, who came off the bench to score 10 points. Jessica Martino added nine points and a team-high eight rebounds.

The Lady Bears return home to host Maryland Eastern Shore (5-14, 1-4 MEAC) on Monday, Jan. 30 at 5:30 p.m. The contest will be a 'White Out' and fans are encouraged to wear white in support of Morgan State.

Maryland Eastern Shore was scheduled to play at home on Saturday against Coppin State, but the game was postponed due to Covid-19 within the Coppin State program.
