BALTIMORE, Md. (Aug. 17, 2022)--Morgan State volleyball fans will get their first glimpse of the 2022 Lady Bears under the direction of first-year head coach
Xiomara Ortiz this Friday, August 19, when they scrimmage local foe the University of Maryland Baltimore County. First serve of this three-set match is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Hill Field House.
Â
There will be no live stats for Friday's scrimmage.
Friday's contest will cap off nearly two weeks of practice, meetings and team bonding for the Lady Bears, as well as mark the conclusion of preseason camp two-a-days with the start of the 2022-23 academic calendar beginning next Monday.
Â
The Retrievers, who a week ago were picked to finish first in the America East Preseason Coaches' Poll, went 19-12 overall and 12-0 in league play last season to capture their second straight America East championship.
Â
Morgan State finished the 2021 season with a 5-24 overall record and went 3-11 in MEAC play to finish seventh. On Wednesday, the Lady Bears were picked to finish seventh in the MEAC Preseason Volleyball Poll.
The Lady Bears begin the 2022 campaign on the road in Charlotte, N.C. in the Charlotte Invitational (Aug. 26-27), hosted by the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. MSU takes on the host 49ers in the season opener on Friday, Aug. 26 at 10 a.m., before closing out the opening day against Campbell at 7 p.m. The Lady Bears conclude the tournament on Saturday with a 5 p.m. contest against Wofford.
