Box Score TOWSON, Md. (April 21, 2022)--The Lady Bears wrapped up the 2022 regular season with a 4-2 non-conference road loss against crosstown rival Towson on Thursday afternoon at Tiger Tennis Complex.
Morgan State (8-10-1) had its two-match winning streak come to an end with the loss, while the Tigers improved to 8-12 on the season.
Towson would win all three doubles matches to claim the doubles point and take a 1-0 lead in the contest. The Tigers then won three of the five singles matches played to secure the win.
Doubles (3,2,1)
The Tigers team of Sissi Axelsson and Olivia Rothfeld recorded a 6-1 victory over Morgan State's
Nolwenn Cardoso and
Stefania Moysiadi on Court 3. Towson secured the point on Court 2, where Jessica Assenmacher and Amelia Lawson defeated
Hannah Smith and
Anabel Aran 6-1. The hosts capped off the doubles sweep with Themis Haliou and Lea Kosanovic getting a 6-3 win over
Averiana Mitchell and
Asmara Rose at No. 1 doubles.
Singles (2,3,6,1,4)
Towson increased its lead to 2-0 when Lawson defeated Mitchell 6-0, 6-1 in a No. 2 singles match.
The Lady Bears bounced back to tie the score at 2-2, following Cardoso's 6-3, 6-2 victory over Assenmacher on Court 3 and
Stefania Moysiadi's 7-5, 6-2 win on Court 6 over Axelsson.
But the Tigers would reclaim the lead for good when Haliou held off Smith 7-5, 6-4 in a No. 1 singles match to put the hosts back on top 3-2. Towson ended the match when Sarah Pospischill recorded a win over Aran 6-1, 7-6 (4) in a No. 4 singles contest to give the Tigers the 4-2 victory.

Morgan State will now prepare for the upcoming MEAC Championship scheduled for next Thursday, April 28-Saturday, April 30 in Cary, N.C.
