Box Score BALTIMORE, Md. (April 17, 2022)--The Lady Bears tennis team closed out their home schedule with a 5-2 non-conference victory over local foe Johns Hopkins on for Senior Day on Sunday afternoon at the MSU Tennis Courts. It was the first-ever meeting between the two programs.

"It is a mixed feeling between a happy and a sad day," said Cardoso. "I'm happy because it's the day that my collegiate career is celebrated and recognized, but I'm sad because I love the game and I realized that I won't be competing anymore soon."

"This day will stay in a lot of memories for a long time," added Cardoso. "I am proud of the way my team played and competed and the way each of us reacted through adversity. This win means a lot for me, but also for the team on this special day."
The Lady Bears improved to 8-9-1 with the victory and ended the regular season on a two-match winning streak. Johns Hopkins, who entered the contest ranked 24
th in the nation in the NCAA Division III poll, fell to 7-5 overall. Â

The Blue Jays jumped out to a 2-0 lead after taking the doubles point and claiming a default victory at No. 6 singles. However, Morgan State would bounce back to win the remaining five singles matches for the 5-2 score.

Averiana Mitchell by a score of 6-4 to earn the doubles point and the 1-0 lead.

The No. 3 doubles contest was not played due to Morgan State not having enough players.

After losing the No. 6 singles match by default for not fielding a player, the Lady Bears went on to win the remaining five singles contests for the win. Four of the five played singles matches would go three sets.

Smith defeated Devireddy at No. 1 singles 6-4, 4-6, 6-0. Mitchell won her No. 2 singles contest over Igaki-Meader 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 to tie the score at 2-2.

Playing in her final home contest at Morgan State, Cardoso would also go three sets in her No. 3 match against Christina Huynh, winning 6-2, 2-6, 7-5 to give the hosts its first lead of the afternoon at 3-2.

Playing at No. 4 singles, Aran held off the Blue Jays' Ali Bader 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 (7-2) to win and increase the Lady Bears lead to 4-2.

Stefania Moysiadi closed out the match with a 6-2, 6-3 straight sets victory over Johns Hopkins' Jessica Liang.
