Men’s Tennis Suffers 5-2 Loss Versus James Madison

YORK, Pa. (April 15, 2022) — The Morgan State men's tennis team captured a pair of singles wins against James Madison, but was ultimately overcome in a 5-2 decision at Wisehaven Tennis Center on Friday evening. 
 
James Madison improved its record to 14-5, while the Bears fell to 8-8 overall for the season.

Nihit Rawal triumphed with a 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 win over Sadek Youssef on court 3 in the last match of the night. Niles Rachal also recorded a win after beating Oscar Hernandez, 3-6, 6-0, 2-1, retired, on court 5. 
 
After Morgan State's Mikeal Carpenter and Nihit Rawal grabbed the doubles advantage with a 6-2 win on court two, the Dukes rallied, claiming wins on courts one and three to take a 1-0 match lead.
 
Koons and Youssef Sadek downed Makkijha Brown and Sebastian Lopez, 6-3, before the tandem of Oscar Hernandez and William Karpinski clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 victory over Niles Rachal and Rhajzon Rankins.
 
William Karpinski quickly doubled the lead in singles play, dropping just two games court two en route to a 6-1, 6-1 triumph against Makkijha Brown.
 
Mathieu Josserand extended the lead to 3-0 with a straight-set win on court six, as he upended Rhajzon Rankins, 6-1, 6-4. Edson Sanchez served up the match-clinching point moments later on court five, besting Sebastian Lopez, 6-3, 6-4.

Next Up
The Bears return to action on Saturday, April 16 when they face the Coppin State in a MEAC regular season finale. First serve is scheduled for 12 p.m. at MSU Tennis Courts. The match will also mark 'Senior Day' for the Bears.
