Blue Hens Defeat Morgan State, 4-0

Newark, Del. (April 12, 2022) -- The Delaware women's tennis team held visiting Morgan State scoreless on Tuesday to earn a 4-0 non-conference victory at Delaware Tennis Courts. The match was stopped after just five completed matches (two doubles and three singles).
 
The host Blue Hens improved to 16-5 on the season, while Morgan State fell to 6-9-1.
 
Doubles (3,1)
Delaware claimed the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions. The Blue Hens' Alina Vasilenko and Dominik Sujova defeated Ana-Lei Kalawe and Averiana Mitchell, 6-1 in a No. 1 match, while Maria Constantinou and Tayo Adetunji defeated Hannah Smith and Anabel Aran, 6-0 at No. 3, giving the hosts a 1-0 lead over the Lady Bears.
 
The No. 2 doubles contest between Delaware's Isabella Montana and Julieta Honrubia and Morgan State's Nolwenn Cardoso and Stefania Moysiadi went unfinished with the Blue Hens' tandem leading 4-1.
 
Singles (2,3,5)
Delaware extended its lead to 2-0 when Honrubia defeated Smith in straight sets 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2. Sujova then recorded a 6-0, 6-2 win over Mitchell at No. 3 singles to up the hosts lead to 3-0.
 
The match ended when Constantinou defeated Aran in a No. 5 match 6-0, 6-3 to give Delaware the 4-0 victory.
 
While Morgan State didn't get any match wins on the day, both Cardoso and Moysiadi recorded set victories before the match was called. Cardoso defeated the Blue Hens' Isabella Montana 6-4 and was tied 2-2 in a No. 4 contest, before it was ruled unfinished. Moysiadi playing at No. 6, earned a 6-1 victory and was up 4-2 over Viva Laas when it was ruled unfinished.
 
Next Up
Morgan State returns to Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play when it travels across town to face rival Coppin State on Saturday, April 16. The Lady Bears will then close out the home schedule and regular season on Sunday, April 17 when it welcomes Johns Hopkins to the MSU Tennis Courts for Senior Day at 1 p.m. It will be the final home contest for senior Averiana Mitchell and graduate students Asmara Rose and Nolwenn Cardoso.
