Morgan And Towson Split Doubleheader Series

Lady Bears record season-high 12 runs on 12 hits in Game 2 win.

TOWSON, Md. (March 30, 2022)--Morgan State made the short trip to Towson, Md. to take on local foe, Towson in a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon at Tiger Softball Stadium.

The Lady Bears and host Tigers would split the series, with Towson earning a 3-2 win in the opener and Morgan State claiming a 12-3 victory in six innings in the nightcap. The Lady Bears' win ended a two-game losing skid to Towson and was just the second home loss this season for the Tigers in seven games. Morgan has now won four of the past six meetings against Towson.

Game 1
Morgan State (14-11) struck first on a double steal with Asia Thomas stealing second and Mia Ewell stealing home for a 1-0 lead.

Towson tied the score in the bottom half of the first when Sydni Byers grounded out to third with bases loaded to score Nicole Kidwiler.

The Tigers took the lead in the third when Mackenzie Lake singled to center field to score Briana Ramirez for the 2-1 advantage.

Morgan State evened the contest at 2-2 in the fourth inning when a fielder's choice bunt by Anaya Hunte allowed Deborah Hamilton to score on the throw.

The score would remain tied until the bottom of the sixth when Cori Jones homered to left center for what would be the game winning run, putting the Tigers ahead 3-2.

Towson (10-17) was led by Jess DaBreo, Lake and Ramirez, who all recorded two hits in the game. Tiger pitcher Julia Jackson improved to 7-7 on the season after allowing two runs on four hits, a walk and striking out three batters.

Morgan State's Emily Raubuch (1-3) struck out two in the loss.

Game 2
The Lady Bears responded in the nightcap by scoring a season-best 12 runs on 12 hits. It's the most runs scored by Morgan State since scoring 13 last season against Bowie State (4/28).

The Tigers jumped out to a 2-0 advantage in the first inning when Lake doubled to left center to score Kidwiler and Ramirez.

From that point on, it was all Morgan State, as the guests scored twice in the second, three times in the third, four runs in the fifth and added three more in the sixth.

Tayven Rousseau got the Lady Bears going in the second inning with a homer to left field, cutting the deficit in half at 2-1. Hunte then doubled to center field to score Irene Martin and tie the score at 2-2.

In the third, it was Martin scoring Thomas on a bunt single to give Morgan a 3-2 lead. Back-to-back sacrifice flies by Hunte and Mia Ewell each plated a run to extend the guests lead to 5-2.

After a scoreless fourth, the Lady Bears were back at it with a four-run fifth. Mia Ewell's two-run double down the right field line scored Hunte and Cayla Sweazie, making the score 7-2. Aliya Ewell then singled through the left side to score Mia and Thomas singled to left field scoring Aliya, as the Lady Bears increased their lead to 9-2.

The Lady Bears bats remained hot, as they piled on three more runs in the sixth inning. Mia Ewell had a bases loaded walk to score Hunte and Aliya Ewell also walked which scored Sweazie.
