Lady Bears Go Unbeaten At MEAC Round-Up With 4-3 Victory Over S.C. State

CARY, N.C. (March 19, 2022)-The Morgan State women's tennis team wrapped up its Spring Break trip to North Carolina and the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Round-Up with a tough 4-3 victory over South Carolina State on Saturday at the Cary Tennis Park.
 
The Lady Bears, who concluded the round-up with a perfect 3-0 mark against the league's southern region teams, improved to 4-6 overall and 3-0 in the MEAC. South Carolina State dropped to 3-7, 2-2 in the MEAC.
 
Doubles (3, 1, 2)
Morgan State captured the doubles point when Asmara Rose and Averiana Mitchell defeated the South Carolina State tandem of Rachida Berjane and Ikram Rassif, 7-7 (7-5) in a No. 2 match, to give the Lady Bears a 1-0.
 
Hannah Smith and Anabel Aran got things started with their 6-2 win over Tedora VuJicic and Anabel Aguilar in a No. 3 match.
 
The Bulldogs No. 1 team of Lasya Patnaik and Nalanda Silva would defeat Nolwenn Cardoso and Stefania Moysiadi, 7-5 in a No. 1 doubles contest.
 
Singles (5, 2, 1, 6, 3, 4)
Morgan State extended its lead to 3-0, following wins by Cardoso and Smith. Cardoso earned a 6-2, 6-4 victory at No. 5 over Rassif and Smith concluded her No. 2 singles match with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Vujicic.
 
South Carolina State got on the board when Berjane defeated Morgan's Ana-Lei Kalawe 6-3, 6-3 in a No. 1 match to cut the deficit to 3-1.
 
The Lady Bears would secure the victory when Moysiadi earned a 6-1, 7-5 win over Begum Gumussoy in a No. 6 match.
 
South Carolina State would get three-set wins from Patnaik and Silva at the No. 3 and No. 4 positions to round out the scoring.
 
Next Up
The Lady Bears return to action on Thursday, March 24 when they visit Loyola Maryland at 3 p.m.
