Morgan defeats Eastern Shore to extend to 3-game win streak

Lagio Grantsaan led the Bears with 19 points and seven rebounds.

BALTIMORE, Md. (Feb. 28, 2022) – Morgan State men's basketball scored 48 points inside the paint and hit seven three-pointers to propel to an 82-48 win over Maryland Eastern Shore on Monday night at Hill Field House. 

Morgan improved to 11-13 overall, 6-6 in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference action and extended their win streak to three in their home finale win. 

It was the most lopsided victory for Morgan over a MEAC opponent since a 96-71 rout of Howard on Feb. 5, 2018.

The Bears also avenged a 79-72 loss to Eastern Shore on January 31 in Princess Anne, Maryland. 
 
Lagio Grantsaan led the Bears with a game-high 19 points on 8 of 15 shooting and collected seven rebounds. De'Torrion Ware added 17 points and shot 4 of 5 from beyond the arc. Malik Miller was 6 for 9 from the floor to finish with 14 points. 
 
Morgan (11-13, 6-6 MEAC) shot 59.6 percent for the game and 46.7 percent from three-point range. The Bears held Eastern Shore to just 35.3 percent shooting and 18 percent from three (4-22). Morgan outrebounded the Hawks 37-23 and had 23 assists in the game. 

 

Da'hawn Phillip led Eastern Shore  (10-14, 5-8 MEAC) with 10 points and four rebounds.
 
Sherwyn Devonish hit a free throw and Trevor Moore hit a three to begin the game, then Morgan extended its lead to 21-4 with the Hawks going scoreless for a 5-minute stretch. Chace Davis hit a jumper to trim the Bears lead to 31-18 with 6:46 left in the half. Ware responded with a 3-pointer that helped ignite a 12-4 run that was capped by a thunderous dunk by Keith McGee just before the halftime buzzer. The Bears went into the intermission with a 46-24 lead. 
 
Morgan had a 13-4 run early in the second half, sparked by a pair of baskets in the paint by Chad Venning. Grantsaan drilled a three to extend the lead to 59-28 with 14:51 remaining. Morgan held its largest lead of the night at 77-41 with 4:41 remaining. 

 

Morgan State and Coppin State will clash in the regular season finale on Thursday, March 3 at 7:30 p.m. inside Coppin's Physical Education Complex Arena.
