BALTIMORE, Md. (Feb. 12, 2022) — Justin Wright tallied 24 points and nine rebounds to guide North Carolina Central to a 74-64 victory over Morgan State on Saturday.
Wright made 10 of 18 shots with two 3-pointers for the Eagles. Randy Miller Jr. sank all seven of his free throws and scored 15. Dontavius King had 12 points and six boards. Eric Boone pitched in with nine points, a career-high-tying six steals, six assists and five rebounds.
N.C. Central improved to 12-11 overall and 5-2 in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play, and have won four of their last five, with the lone loss at South Carolina State (Feb. 7).
Meanwhile, the Bears have dropped five of their last six, with the lone win against Delaware State (Jan. 30).
Malik Miller totaled 21 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and four blocks for the Bears (7-12, 2-5). Lagio Grantsaan added 13 points and seven boards.
Morgan couldn't hold onto a 12-point halftime lead, making just nine baskets in the second half, including 1 for 11 from three.
Dontavius King gave the Eagles its first lead of the second half with a layup to take a 51-49 lead with 11:44 remaining. King scored seven points as part of a 20-8 run during a nine minute span.
Malik Miller kept the Bears within striking distance down the stretch and a layup by Isaiah Burke pulled Morgan within 68-63 with 27 second left. However, the Eagles ended up salting away the game by hitting 4 of 4 free throws to help seal the win.
