Bears sweep South Carolina State with a 76-66 win

BALTIMORE, Md. (Feb. 14, 2022) — Trevor Moore scored 17 points and Morgan State beat South Carolina State, 76-66 victory on Monday before a Valentine's Day crowd at Hill Field House.

The Bears swept the season series with S.C. State, winning 88-81 in Orangeburg on January 10 and snapped a two-game losing skid.

Moore connected on 5 for 10 from the field and went 3 for 6 from beyond the arc to help Morgan improve to 8-12 overall and sit at 3-5 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.

Malik Miller scored 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for his fourth double-double of the season (14th of his career). Lagio Grantsaan added 13 points and Sherwyn Devonish added 10 points and a game-high six assists off the bench.

Antonio "TJ" Madlock had 16 points and six boards, while Omar Crosky added 15 to lead South Carolina State (13-12, 5-4). Jemal Davis added another 13 points and Edward Oliver-Hampton had seven rebounds to go along with 10 points for the Bulldogs, whose three-game winning streak was snapped.

The Bulldogs got off to a strong start as Rahsaan Edwards' 3-pointer put S.C. State ahead 10-4.

Morgan got in gear behind a 12-2 run, finished off by a layup by Devonish to give the Bears a 16-12 lead at the 14:33 mark.

The game remained closely contested for the remainder of the half. Will Thomas finished off a dunk to help Morgan take a 38-35 lead into the halftime break.

Things heated up in the second half. After Croskey hit a 3-pointer to cut the Morgan's lead to 47-46, Devonish answered with a three, followed by a three from Moore as part of a 12-0 run, finished off with a pair of free throws by Miller to extend the lead to 59-46.

The Bulldogs could get no closer than eight points for the remainder of the game.

Morgan's bench outscored the Bulldogs 37-14 and held a 42-35 advantage on the boards.
