NORFOLK, Va. (Dec. 13, 2022)--Morgan State graduate forward
Charlene Shepherd was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Defensive Player of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, the conference office announced today. This is the first weekly honor for Shepherd this season.

Redshirt junior guard Mossi Staples of Coppin State and sophomore guard Lovely Sonnier of South Carolina State were named MEAC Co-Players of the Week.

A native of Killeen, Texas, Shepherd grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds – 10 on the defensive end – and picked up two steals in the Lady Bears' contest at Texas State (12/11). Shepherd also scored a game-high 17 points to record her second straight double-double and third of the season.

Shepherd and the Lady Bears (7-3) will return to action on Sunday, Dec. 18, when they travel to Charlottesville, Va., to take on unbeaten Virginia (11-0) at 2 p.m. at John Paul Jones Arena.
