Morgan falls to Queens in Rose Hall Division Championship at Jamaica Classic

The short story: The Queens University of Charlotte men's basketball team captured the 2022 Rose Hall Division Championship at the Jamaica Classic as Jay'Den Turner led the way with a career-high 23 points.
 
OPENING TIP
  • Junior forward Jay'Den Turner led the Royals with a game-high 23 points on 9-of-14 shooting while also pulling down seven rebounds.
  • Kenny Dye dropped 18 points on 6-of-9 shooting, including a perfect 3-for-3 mark from behind the arc. The senior also dished out five assists.
  • BJ McLaurin added 10 points and matched his career-high with nine rebounds for the Royals.
  • Senior Malik Miller paced the Bears with 16 points and eight rebounds.
  • Senior guard Isaiah Burke also scored double figures with 15 points and connected on 4-of-7 3-pointers. David McCullough chipped in nine points and three boards.
 
THE DIFFERENCE
  • Queens shot 50-percent from the field and 33-percent from behind the arc while holding the Bears to a 43-percent clip from the field and 26-percent mark from deep.
  • Queens played to a 37-25 halftime lead behind .500 percent (14-28) shooting in the opening stanza.
  • Morgan shot .526 (10-of-19) from the free throw line, compared to the Royal's .636 percent (14-22). and connected on 7-of-19 (.449) from 3-point range.
  • The Royals continued to dominate the paint outrebounding Morgan State 42-26.
  • Morgan scored 23 points off of forcing 22 Queens turnovers.
 
NOTABLE
  • Sunday night's game marked the first meeting between the teams.
  • Queens opened the game on 12-2 run as Jay'Den Turner drained seven points going 3-for-3 shooting and forcing a Morgan State timeout.
  • The Royals would open that early lead to as much as 22-2 before Morgan would respond with a 9-2 run over a five-minute span as the Royals cooled off.
  • After taking a 37-25 lead into the break, the Royals would continue to extend their lead as the Bears never came within eight points of the lead for the remainder of the game.
