Morgan State Announces Varsity “M” Club Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2021

BALTIMORE, Md. (Sept. 7, 2021) — Morgan State University is pleased to announce its 2021 induction class into the Varsity "M" Club Athletic Hall of Fame. The group – comprised of 10 individuals and two historic teams – will be formally inducted into the elite Hall of Fame membership.
 
MSU's Class of 2021 is headlined by a cast of decorated athletes who are the epitome of Morgan athletic excellence:  Troy McIntosh (1992-95), a two-time MEAC MVP sprinter in track and field; Tiffany Pickens Byrd (1995-98), an All-MEAC middle blocker and 1997 MEAC Champion in volleyball; Greg Veal (1979-84) an NCAA Division II National Champion in wrestling; Andre Wickham (1976-79), a two-time MEAC Champion for the Bears in football; Mikal Abdul Saboor (1978-81), a 1979 MEAC Champion and Sheridan Black College All-American in 1981;  Marvin Hicks (1975-79), who was a three-time All-MEAC lineman and 1979 MEAC Champion; Kim Whitehead-Barksdale (1981-83), an NCAA Division I Big 8 Conference Champion and All-American; Corin "Tiny" Adams (2006-10), Morgan's All-time Leader in scoring, assists and steals; Arthur Cook (1976-79), a two-time MEAC Champion with the Bears football team; and Antoine Maurice Peck (1992-96) an NCAA Division All-American in track & field.
 
The Hall of Fame Committee will also recognize two teams as Team of Distinction Award honorees. The 1997 Volleyball Team, which posted a 25-10 record, won the MEAC Championship and became the first HBCU team to earn a bid to the NCAA Tournament; and the Wrestling Team which head coach James Phillips led to 13 MEAC championships (1975-94) also will be honored.
 
The Varsity "M" Club Athletic Hall of Fame inductees will be enshrined during an awards banquet on October 21, 2021, at the Hyatt Regency Inner Harbor Baltimore. The Hall of Fame class will also be recognized at Morgan's Homecoming game versus North Carolina Central on Saturday, October 23.

~ Two-time MEAC MVP (First -ever MEAC Championship) 
~ Undefeated 200m and 400m Indoor MEAC (1992-1995). 
~ Olympic Bronze Medalist Men's 4 x 400 meter Relay (2000 Sydney Olympics).
 
 
Tiffany Pickens, Volleyball, 1995-1998      
~ earned ALL- MEAC 2nd Team (1997)

~ National Ranking (12th) Hitting Percentage 1997

Greg Veal, Wrestling, 1979-1984      
~ a Three-time MEAC Conference Champion 
~ Three time East Regional Champion. 

~ NCAA Division II National Champion (3rd and 5th Place) 167 lbs class.
 
 
Andre Wickham, Football, 1979-1979      
~ Member of two(2) MEAC Football Championships
~ Starter all four years of his collegiate career.

~ All Conference Player. 
~ Signed with Dallas Cowboys (1980) and San Diego Chargers (1981)
 
 
Mikal Abdul-Saboor, Football, 1978-1981      
~ Member of the 1979 MEAC Football Championship Team. 
~ All State Team Maryland- 1st team selection 1980. 
~ He earned All-MEAC three years in a row ;1979, 1980-1981. 
~ 3x MEAC Lineman of the week-1979. 
~ Sheridan Black College All American-1981
~ Went on to a professional football career in 1982-1983 with Pittsburgh Steelers and in 1985 New Jersey Generals.

~ Was the Football Co-Captain 1978.  
~ All MEAC 1976, 1977, and 1978. 
~ All-State Selection 1st team (Maryland) 1976,1977, 1978.

~ 2x MEAC Lineman of the week-1977,1978.
~ Four Year Starter. 
~ Two-Time MEAC Lineman of the Week. 
~ Semi-Professional Team Baltimore Eagles.
 
 
Kim Whitehead-Barksdale, Track and Field, 1981-1983      
~ Was recognized by Black College Sports History and Legends as a member of Morgan  Women's Track and Field. 
~ NCAA Division I Big 8 Conference Champion 
~ All-American 400m Hurdles and 1980 Olympic Trials Finalist. 
~ Member of the Morgan State Women's  4 x400 Relay American Record 3:39.58 (1983)
 
 
Corin "Tiny" Adams, Basketball, 2006-2010      
~ Was a member of the Morgan State Women's Basketball Team
~  Earned honors as 2007 MEAC All-Rookie Team

~ She was Morgan's All-Time Leading Scorer (Male and Female) 2058 Points
~ All -Time Assist Leader  (Male and Female) 455 Assists 
~ All Time Steals Leader (Male and Female) 404 steals
~ Has the distinction of the school's First Triple Double. 
~ Moved on to a professional career from 2010-2017 with the  Professional Overseas Basketball League.
 
 
Arthur Cook, Football, 1976-1979
~ Was a member of Morgan State University Football Team.
~  Two- Time  MEAC Champion.
~ Second Team All-Conference (1977),
~ First Team All-Conference (1978 & 1979 ),
~ Team Leader - 4 years QB Sacks, Blocked Punts and Field Goals.
~ Professional Football Career: Buffalo Bills (1980 and 1982), San Diego Chargers (1981), Baltimore Colts(1983) , Indianapolis Colts (1984) and USFL Arizona Wranglers (1985) 
 
 
Antoine Maurice Peck, Track and Field, 1992-1996
~ Was a  member of Morgan State Track and Field Team University.  
~ NCAA Division I All-American  Track and Field (Indoor and Outdoor). 

~ Eddie P. Hurt Male Athlete of the Year (1995)
~ MEAC Championship  Men's Indoor Track and Field Team (1994).
