Madison Grace totaled a match-high 25 kills for the second straight contest and
Mackenzie Jefferson earned a double-double with a season-best 52 assists and 10 digs for the Lady Bears in their final match of the George Mason Invitational.

Unfortunately, their efforts were not enough, as the Lady Bears, who were coming off a five-set victory the night before over host George Mason, would this time fall to Marist in a hard fought five-set match, 3-2 (21-25, 25-21, 23-25, 25-21, 9-15) on Saturday afternoon at the Recreation Athletic Complex on the George Mason campus.

Morgan State fell to 1-10 on the season with the loss, while the Red Foxes improved to 4-5.

Marist hit .297 and reached double figures in every set to total 69 kills for the match. The Red Foxes finished with a set-high 17 kills in the third and hit for a set-best .389 in Set 2 with 15 kills and just one error.

The Red Foxes were led by Jordan Newblatt, who had a double-double with 23 kills and 11 digs. Madelyn Waumans finished short of a double-double, totaling 20 kills and nine digs. Morgan Owens had a match-high 21 digs and McKinley Fox recorded a match-high 60 assists and led Marist with three blocks, including two solo blocks.

Morgan State recorded double digit kills in each of the first four sets, including a set-best 19 kills for a set-high .432 attack percentage. The Lady Bears would hit .289 as a team for the match.

Gabriela Hiciano collected a double-double with 13 kills and 15 digs, while
Justyus Jackson, who hit for a team-best .444, tallied 11 kills and
Makila Billingsley also had 11 kills.
Jadore Hayes led Morgan State with 18 digs. The Lady Bears received a match-high six assisted blocks from Billingsley and
Melanie Battle added four to help Morgan to a 7.0-5.0 blocking advantage over the Red Foxes.

The Lady Bears will travel north next weekend to North Andover, Mass. and Durham, New Hampshire to compete in the UNH/Merrimack Tournament (Sept. 17-18), co-hosted by the University of New Hampshire and Merrimack University. It will be the fourth and final regular season tournament for Morgan State during the 2021 season. The Lady Bears will square off against both co-hosts on Friday, first taking on Merrimack at noon, before facing New Hampshire at 3 p.m. Both contests will be played at Merrimack in North Andover, Mass. Morgan State will conclude the tournament on Saturday against Rhode Island at 11 a.m. in Durham, New Hampshire.
