Morgan State Drops Road Contest At Delaware State, 3-0

DOVER, Del. (March 15, 2021)-The Morgan State volleyball team went on the road on Monday evening and dropped its second consecutive match, as it lost to Delaware State 3-0 (26-24, 27-25, 25-18) in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Northern Division match at Memorial Hall.
 
Morgan State (3-3, 2-2 MEAC) fell to third-place in the division standings, while Delaware State (7-2, 3-1 MEAC) moved into sole possession of second.
 
The Lady Bears had set point in the first and second sets, but were unable to close out. Both times Morgan State would allow three consecutive points, as the Hornets would come back to win 26-24 and 27-25 to take a 2-0 lead.
 
Delaware State led 16-11, but the Lady Bears used a 4-0 run, capped off by back-to-back attack errors by the Hornets to pull within a point at 16-15. Morgan State still trailed by a point (18-17) when the hosts scored five straight to increase their lead to 23-17. A kill by Mykaela Ross briefly ended Delaware State's run, but the Hornets scored the next two points for the 25-18 victory.
 
Gabriela Hiciano hit for .345 and led the Lady Bears with a match-high 14 kills and added seven digs. Ross had an attack percentage of .440, finishing with 12 kills with just one error on 25 attempts. Jada Bivins tallied a match-high 32 assists and Jennevy Santos recorded a team-high 11 digs.
 
Delaware State's Mayah Ngundam and Valeria Otero each recorded a team-leading 13 kills, while Jasmal Cruz tallied a match-high 15 digs. Jelena Dukic had 26 assists and Alayna Lacy finished with 15.
 
Morgan State finished the match with 40 kills and hit .224 as a team, while the Hornets had a team hitting percentage of .295 with 49 kills. Both squads committed 16 attack errors.
 
Next up for the Lady Bears is a trip to Washington, D.C. to face Howard in a MEAC series Thursday-Friday, March 18-19. First serve is at 6 p.m. both days at Burr Gymnasium.
