Hill, Wade Leads Longwood over Bears

FARMVILLE, Va. (Dec. 11, 2021) – Justin Hill and DeShaun Wade each scored 21 points to lead the Longwood Lancers to a 93-55 victory against Morgan State on Saturday afternoon.

The Lancers controlled both ends of the floor as they improved to 6-4 on the season and 6-1 at home inside Willet Hall. With the loss, the Bears drop to 4-6 for the season.

Morgan (4-6) was limited to 32.8 percent (20-61) shooting from the floor, was just 6 of 30 from the 3-point territory, and was outrebounded by a 51-28 margin in a fast-paced game.

The Lancers totaled 28 points in the paint and scored 25 points of 17 Bear turnovers.

Hill, a Preseason All-Conference guard, 15 of his 21 points in the first half and added five assists and three rebounds. Wade shot 6 of 9 from the field and was 4 of 6 from beyond the arc. Wake Forest transfer Isaiah Wilkins added 10 points with seven boards in 18 minutes.

Trevor Moore was the only Bear in double-figures with 10 points. De'Torrion Ware scored nine points and Malik Miller chipped in eight points with a game-high nine rebounds.

The contest was tight through the opening 10 minutes of the game. A jumper by Moore gave the Bears a 7-2 lead in the opening 3 minutes of the game.  The Lancers responded with a 20-2 run over an 8 minute stretch to take control of the game at 22-9 (9:05).

At that point, the Bears were held to just 1 for 9 shooting from beyond the arc and was outrebounded by a 20-6 margin.

Longwood cruised as they hit shots, took advantage of the Bears on the boards, and forced turnovers. Meanwhile, there was a lid on the basket for the Bears for much of the first stanza.

Miller converted a 3-point play to trim the Lancers lead to 10 points (25-15) with 6:35 remaining in the half. It was as close as the Bears would get for the game.

The Lancers finished the first half with eight three-pointers, while the Bears were 2 for 13 (15.4%) and shot 32 percent in the half (8-26). A 26-foot 3-pointer by Wade put the Lancers up 37-17, for its largest lead of the game. Longwood held a 39-22 lead at the break.

Longwood kept their foot on the gas in the second half and stretched the lead out to 43-22 off a fastbreak basket from Hill. Solid ball movement led to an open corner 3-pointer by Wade to extend the lead to 50-27 with 17:04 remaining.
