BALTIMORE, Md. (Nov. 30, 2021)-The Morgan State women's basketball team earned its third consecutive victory, following a 66-62 non-conference win at Saint Peter's on Monday at Run Baby Run Arena.
Morgan State, which improved to 3-11 all-time against the Peacocks, has now won two straight in the series.
Ashia McCalla led the Lady Bears (3-4) with a team-high 15 points and added five rebounds, while
Adia Brisker added 13 points and six rebounds.
Dahnye Redd finished with 11 points and five rebounds. The Lady Bears finished the game with 18 steals, as
Taylor Addison recorded a game-high seven steals to go with nine points and seven rebounds in the win.
The contest was tight throughout with 14 ties and 12 lead changes. Saint Peter's (1-5) led by as much as eight points early on and Morgan led by as much as six points late in the game.
The Peacocks' Binta Salawu knocked down two free throws to cap off a 7-0 run and give the hosts their largest lead of the game at 18-10 with 2:12 remaining in the first quarter. Morgan State closed out the half scoring the last seven points to pull within 18-17 after one quarter of play.
Morgan State then scored the first four points of the second quarter to complete an 11-0 spurt and take a 21-18 lead when Brisker connected on two free throws with 8:59 left in the half. The teams would go into the locker room tied at 29 at the intermission.
It was much of the same in the third quarter, as Saint Peter's Kassondra Brown scored back-to-back baskets to start the third period and give the hosts a 33-29 lead. But the Peacocks couldn't create any further separation.
A layup by McCalla evened the score at 36 all, but the hosts scored the next four points. Morgan State went on a 6-0 run, capped off by a layup from Redd to give Morgan a 42-40 advantage with 3:13 left in the third. The Peacocks would hold a slim 46-45 lead heading into the final 10 minutes of regulation.
Morgan State used a 6-0 run to break a 58-58 tie to take its largest lead of the game at 64-58 with 49 seconds remaining.
Brown scored a game-high 17 points to lead Saint Peter's and Kourtney Crane added 15.
Morgan State returns to action on Thursday, Dec. 2, when it travels to Annapolis, Md. to take on Navy at 7 p.m.
