WASHINGTON, D.C. (Oct. 29, 2021)-Bria Woodward had a match-high 12 kills and hit for .556, while Jennifer Bolden added 10 kills and hit .500 to lead Howard to a 3-0 (25-14, 25-17, 25-16) Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) victory over visiting Morgan State on Friday evening at Burr Gymnasium.

Kayla Diaz finished with a match-high 19 assists and added three kills, two assisted blocks and six digs and Milexa Cardona had 14 assists for Howard (11-11, 8-2 MEAC), which swept the season series with the win. The Bison have now won three straight over the Lady Bears to improve to 40-41 all-time against Morgan State.

Morgan State (4-20, 2-8 MEAC) was led by
Gabriela Hiciano, who finished with seven kills and added one assist and two digs.
Mackenzie Jefferson had 13 assists to go with two digs, two kills, an assisted block and a service ace.
Jadore Hayes had seven digs and
Tyasia McDuffie collected six digs.

The Bison used a 5-0 run to trigger an 8-2 spurt to take a 14-5 advantage in the opening set. Morgan State pulled within six points (16-10) after three straight points, but Howard would score the next four points to extend its lead to 20-10, before winning 25-14.

Morgan State scored five straight to take a 5-3 lead and led 10-6 after a kill by
Madison Grace. Howard would eventually counter with six consecutive points in the midst of an 8-1 run to take an 18-14 lead. Howard would close out the set with a 7-2 run to win the set 25-17 and take a 2-0 lead.

The Bison took an 11-4 lead in Set 3 and led 13-7, before going on an 8-3 run to increase their advantage to 21-10. The hosts would end the match on a kill from Bolden to give Howard the 25-16 set victory.

Howard finished the match hitting .393 as a team and totaled 43 kills. The Bison recorded a set-high 16 kills in the opening set for an attack percentage of .464, also a set-best. Howard would add 14 kills each in the second and third sets, as well and hit for .462 in the third set with just two errors.

Led by Cimone Woodard's match-high four service aces, the hosts finished with 11 service aces, but committed nine service errors. Morgan State had four aces and five errors.

Morgan State had 10 assisted blocks with
Kendal Hoges and Hiciano each recording three assisted blocks. Howard had four solo blocks and four assisted blocks.

The Lady Bears return to the court on Sunday, Oct. 31 when they entertain Norfolk State at Hill Field House. First serve is at 1 p.m. The Spartans won the first meeting, 3-1 in Norfolk, Va. (10/10).
