BALTIMORE, Md. (January 24, 2021) -- Junior guard De'Torrion Ware scored a career-high 36 points off the bench to help the Bears beat Delaware State 99-83 on Sunday at Hill Field House.

Ware, who recorded a 30-point outing at Norfolk State (Jan. 10), made 11 of his 20 shots, including 6 of 11 from 3-point range. He also grabbed four rebounds, two steals and had a blocked shot.

Senior forwards Troy Baxter and Lagio Grantsaan finished with 17 points apiece for Morgan State (8-4, 3-2 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference). Junior Malik Miller finished with 15 points, six rebounds and six assists, while junior Sherwyn Devonish chipped in 14 points and a game-high eight assists.

The Bears improved its all-time record against Delaware State to 60-42, and have not suffered a loss to the Hornets since March 1, 2018.

Myles Carter scored 19 points and John Stansbury had 13 points for the Hornets (0-10, 0-5). Dominik Fargala and Shaft Clark added 12 and 11 points, respectively.

MSU made 10 of its first 13 shots to jump to a 26-8 lead in the first eight minutes. Baxter accounted for seven of those points.

MSU led 58-34 at halftime, behind 17 points by Baxter, who connected on 8-of-11 shots, including a couple of emphatic dunks.

The Bears shot in the 60s for much of the first half before finishing at 59.4 percent. Meanwhile, DSU shot 34 percent, including 12 turnovers, and Carter finished with nine first half points.

MSU opened the second half with a 7-3 spurt, and a putback layup by Miller gave the Bears a 65-37 lead with 18:12 remaining.

DSU shot dramatically better in the second half, making 56.6 percent, including 4-of-10 from 3-point territory and outscored the Bears by a 49-41 margin. The Hornets trimmed the lead to 14 (83-69) when Carter hit a jumper with 6:59 left to go. But it was just too little, too late as the Bears would go on to cruise to the finish.

MSU shot 54 percent in the game, compared to 45 percent for DSU. The Bears also scored 36 points in the paint and scored 33 points off of 17 turnover by the Hornets.

Next Up:
The Bears don't play again until Jan. 30 and Jan. 31 in a MEAC series at cross-town rival Coppin State.
