Ware leads Bears in 99-41 rout of St. Mary's College

BALTIMORE, Md. (January 21, 2021) -- Junior guard De'Torrion Ware scored 14 of his 23 points in the second half to lead the Morgan State Bears to a 99-41 win over St. Mary's College of Maryland Thursday night inside Hill Field House.

The Bears never trailed tonight in what marked the first meeting between the teams.

MSU led 21-2 after the first 9 minutes of the ballgame.

MSU closed the last 3:29 on a 13-4 run to take a 42-22 lead into the break.

The Bears shot 54.3 percent in the first half and limited the visiting Seahawks to 7-for-23 shooting, including 1-for-7 from beyond the arc.

MSU's 20-point halftime lead was its biggest this season.

Ware was a prime factor in the Bears balanced first-half attack, scoring 9 points by halftime. He finished the game connecting on 10-of-13 field goals, including 3-for-5 from 3-point territory. His 23 points marked the fourth time this season he had scored 20 or more points.

Ware had a lot of help from Sharone Wright, Malik Miller and Troy Baxter who also posted double-figures.

Wright had one of his best games of the season as he poured in 20 points on 8-for-16 shooting, and added nine assists with eight rebounds.

Miller, the reining MEAC Player of the Week, finished with his fourth double-double of the season by recording 16 points and 11 rebounds. He also had four steals and two assists.

Baxter came off the bench to score 10 points with four assists.

The Bears did not let up in the second half as they cruised to their seventh win of the season.

Daryn Alexander scored 14 points and grabbed five rebounds for the Seahawks (0-1), who were hurt by 30 percent shooting. Morgan State shot 55.3 percent, including 9-for-20 from 3-point territory. Olumide Lewis and Gary Grant added 7 points each for the St. Mary's College, who were playing in their season-opener.

MSU outscored the Seahawks by a 58-12 margin inside the paint, and held a 44-30 advantage on the glass.
