Eagles Pull Away from Morgan State, 89-79

BALTIMORE, Md. (January 17) – Anthony Tarke scored 21 points with 12 rebounds to lead Coppin State to an 89-79 victory Sunday afternoon at Hill Field House.

Tarke, who led four Eagles in double-figures, was 5-for-12 from the field and recorded six assists, five steals and three blocked shots.

Koby Thomas scored 12 of his 19 points in the first half for Coppin State (4-9, 3-1 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference). Kyle Cardaci finished with 14 points (3-6 3FG) and Nendah Tarke added 11. Dejuan Clayton chipped in a game-high eight assists to go along with nine point and three steals.

Junior guard Malik Miller led all scorers with a career-high 30 points (11-18 FG) and had 12 rebounds and four assists for the Bears (6-4, 2-2). Junior Trevor Moore connected on 7-of-12 3-pointers and finished with a career-high 27 points.

De'Torrion Ware and Troy Baxter, who posted 29 points and 22 respectively during the Bears 92-72 win against the Eagles Saturday, were limited to six points apiece in today's matchup. The duo combined for just 2-of-20 shooting.

Morgan State tied the game at 77-77 following a 3-pointer by Moore with 2:49 left to go before the Eagles made their final run.

Tarke drove into the lane and found Clayton wide open for a 3-pointer from the top of the key to put the Eagles up 80-77 with 2:22 remaining. After a pair of empty possessions by the Bears, the Eagles struck again when Tarke drove into the teeth of the defense before dishing off to Thomas for a two-handed dunk and an 82-77 lead.

Nendah Tarke would go on to convert three of four free throws in the final seconds to help Coppin State seal the weekend split.

MSU, who shot 52.5% overall, including 40% on 3-pointers, on Saturday, was limited to a season-low 35.2% overall and 29.7% from long distance on Sunday. Coppin shot 44.8 percent from the floor and hit 12-for-28 (42.9%) from beyond the arc. The Eagles also converted 25-of-32 free throws.

Coppin's bench outscored the Bears by a 25-10 margin and held a 46-40 advantage on the glass.

The Eagles went on a 13-4 run over a 4 minute stretch to build a 35-26 lead with 3:43 remaining before the break. Trevor Moore buried a 3-pointer at the 2:36 mark as part of an 8-2 run to close of the half.  The Bears went into the intermission trailing 42-40.
