BALTIMORE, Md. (January 16, 2021) — Junior guard De'Torrion Ware had a game-high 29 points as Morgan State rolled past Coppin State 92-72 on Saturday at Hill Field House. Senior Troy Baxter added 22 points for the Bears, while junior Malik Miller chipped in 21 points.
Ware, who posted 30 points at Norfolk State on Jan. 20, continued his hot shooting by converting 9-for-16 from the field, 3-of-8 from beyond the arc, and 8-for-11 from the free throw line.
Baxter also had a season-high 12 rebounds and a career-high six blocks, while Miller posted 12 rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Senior Lagio Grantsaan had 10 points for Morgan State (6-3, 2-1 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference).
Coppin State (3-9, 2-1) had five players score in doube-figures. Anthony Tarke had 17 points and a game-high 16 rebounds with five assists for the Eagles. Kyle Cardaci added 12 points (4-7 3FG) off the bench.
DeJuan Clayton, whose 13.0 points per game coming into the contest ranked second on the Eagles, shot only 20 percent for the game (2 of 10) and finished with 10 points and three assists. Koby Thomas and Yuat Alok added 10 points apiece.
MSU held a 42-35 halftime lead, before exploding for 50 points in the second stanza.
MSU shot 52.5% from the field, including 10-of-25 from 3-point range, and shot 69.2 percent from the foul line (18-of-26). Coppin State was limited to 38.7 percent shooting from the field and 33.3 percent from 3-point territory and converted 15-of-23 (65.2 percent) from the stripe.
MSU beat the Eagles on the glass, 40-35 with 24 on the defensive boards. The Bears also scored 20 points off of 16 offensive rebounds.
The Bears turned MSU's 19 turnovers into 33 points and outscored the Eagles in the paint by a 38-26 margin.
