BALTIMORE, Md. (July 27, 2020) -- The Morgan State women's tennis team had three (3) individuals listed among the 2020 Intercollegiate Tennis Association's All-Academic Scholar Athletes, the organization announced Monday.
Represented on the squad were sophomore
Jourdan Wallace and freshmen
Ana-Lei Kalawe and
Guntra Upeniece.
"We are very proud of our three ladies. Despite having their athletic competition cut short, they continued to compete in the classroom," said MSU head coach
Matthew Townes. "We look forward to having the rest of the team join them in the coming semester."
In 2020, 1,430 Division I Women student-athletes were named an ITA Scholar-Athlete and 244 women's tennis programs were awarded the All-Academic Team distinction.
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria:
1.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and
2.) be listed on the institutional eligibility form
In addition to the individual honors, the Lady Bears also garnered the ITA All-Academic Team Award.
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All varsity letter winners should be factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year (including fall 2019 and spring 2020).
