Men's Tennis Dominates La Salle 7-0

BALTIMORE, Md. (March 1, 2020) -- The Morgan State men's tennis team improved to 7-3 on the season with a dominating 7-0 win over the visiting La Salle Explorers. The Bears played outdoors on the Morgan State Tennis Courts for the first time this Spring.

Doubles started off strong with Nihit Rawal and Sebastian Lopez winning at number 3 by a score of 6-3. The Bears clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 win by Oguzhan Ceylan and Cem Erturk at number 2 doubles. Serhii Kharchev and Mark Amaefule suffered a 7-6 setback to Rogelio Gonzalez and Connor Merrill at number 1 doubles.

The singles action started out with the Bears quickly dispatching La Salle at number 3 singles. Oguzhan Ceylan dropped Gage Sanchez with a 6-0, 6-2 victory. Morgan State then went up 3-0, with Nihit Rawal winning at the number 2 singles spot over Connor Merrill 6-2, 6-0.

Cem Erturk won 6-3, 6-2 at number 1 singles to clinch the match and put the Bears up 4-0. Sebastian Lopez defeated Brandon Caban at number 5 singles by a score of 6-1, 6-0.

Serhii Kharchev won 6-4, 6-3 at number 4 singles and freshman Mark Amaefule rounded out the day with a come-from-behind 3 set victory against Colin Lucius at number 6 singles 2-6, 6-2, 1-0 (8).

The Bears return to action on Wednesday, March 11 when they host the Loyola University of Maryland. First serve is set for 4 p.m.
